An officer from the Hackensack Police Department on patrol on Wednesday, Feb. 14 stopped 30-year-old Henry Mays for a vehicle and traffic violation involving faulty equipment.

During the subsequent stop, it was determined that Mays did not have a valid New Jersey driver’s license. Further investigation revealed that Mays had a warrant out for his arrest in Jersey City for an undisclosed infraction.

Police said that upon being advised he was to be placed under arrest, Mays advised the officer that he was in possession of a loaded gun in his front pocket, which was swiftly taken into custody. He was also in possession of 50 wax folds of alleged heroin.

Mays was arrested at the scene and charged with criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm for unlawful purposes, possession of hollow point rounds, criminal possession of a criminal substance with intent to distribute and criminal possession of a firearm while committing a CDS offense.

Following arraignment, Mays was transported to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail. He is due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
